Perry was born on July 25, 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television included two episodes in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mother. In fear of stress, her parents didn't want to see the actress pursue acting until she reached the age of 18. Perry said that she was nervous to be an actor during high school, but started acting in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred from Boston University. Perry was able to land tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. Homesickness, however, brought her back to California to return, where she started to work in the stage. She performed on Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer prize-winning film Anna Christie with her in the year 2015. Perry was featured nine times on The Family, an ABC film The Family, in 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal along with her father. In the same year, her character was cast the younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger character of her mom's character. The role was selected through an audition, even the fact that she had a deep relationship with the show.
